Graskop is a small logging town situated on the Mpumalanga Highveld, right on the edge of the escarpment with easy access to the Lowveld. Graskop is an Afrikaans word meaning "head of grass" or "grassy hillock". It is the perfect base from which to explore the magnificently scenic Panorama Route. The town, at an altitude of 1400 m above sea level, has a temperate climate with a high rainfall and is often misty in the summer months.
In addition to The Panorama Route, there are a number of scenic waterfalls in the area worth a visit such as the Lisbon Falls, Berlin Falls and Mac Mac Falls. The historic mining town of Pilgrim’s Rest is about 30 minutes drive from Graskop.
The town center offers a number of interesting curio and weaving shops to visit. Harry's Pancake Palace is worth a visit (Pancakes = Crepes).
The mid-range Mogodi Lodge has a perfect location on the edge of the Graskop Gorge with views over the Lowveld. It is well situated to explore the area.

The scenic Panorama Route, with various viewpoints, runs along the top of a section of the escarpment between the Mpumalanga Highveld and Lowveld. It offers incredible views, we strongly recommend it. The Route may be approached from Ohrigstad or from the logging town of Graskop.
God's Window, part of the popular Panorama Route, is a viewpoint on the Mpumalanga Escarpment with beautiful vistas of the Lowveld below. God's Window is clearly signposted from the R534. It's a 50m walk from the car park to the edge of the escarpment.
The village of Pilgrim's Rest in Mpumalanga Province exists because of the discovery of alluvial gold in the small stream in the valley where the village was later founded. The discovery was made in 1873 by Alex 'Wheelbarrow' Patterson. He was a gold prospector (panner) and arrived in the area with all his belongings on a single wheelbarrow.
The Blyde River Canyon is located in Mpumalanga - South Africa, just north of the town of Graskop. It is the third largest canyon in the world after the Grand Canyon (USA) and the Fish River Canyon (Namibia). It is the largest green canyon in the world.
