Durban markets itself as the ‘holiday capital’ of South Africa where the ’fun’ never sets. The branding is linked to its ocean-side location, various beaches, sub-tropical climate that allows for year-round swimming and its entertainment centers.
But there’s much more to Durban. It was a staging area for various battles in multiple wars. Amongst other things, it hosted famous people such as Mahatma Gandhi and Winston Churchill during defining periods of their lives. Today it’s a melting pot of peoples - especially Zulu, English and Indian.
Your tour starts with a drive along the main city beachfront - the Golden Mile. Heading into the CBD you’ll view City Hall with it’s Victorian Era British Colonial architecture before heading to the beautiful Durban Botanical Gardens where you’ll explore the region’s sub-tropical vegetation. It also features a large collection of cycads. During the morning you'll also visit an African-Indian market. Durban has a sizeable Indian population that influences the culture of the city.
